The Com DEALL Manual for families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder:
This manual is a compilation of responses to questions given by 9 professionals with different backgrounds who have been working with children with autism and their families in Bangalore, Karnataka. Along with the other professionals, the Com DEALL view point has also been stated. The manual addresses questions with regards to two main aspects, the first dealing primarily with issues that the families face and the second with issues pertaining to the child.
Communication DEALL Developmental Checklists (CDDC)
The CDDC manual consists of checklists covering eight developmental domains for children in the age range of 0 to 6 years. These have been field tested on urban Indian children from middle class backgrounds and can be used as a screening measure for identification of developmental delays in specific areas. In the Communication DEALL program they are used to profile children prior to intervention.

In this manual the focus is on building of the pre requisite learning skills (PLS) through activities and games that have been illustrated. The lessons target establishment of eye gaze, eye contact, attention, joint attention and sitting tolerance and also with the sustenance of these skills for longer duration of time and in larger groups.

Oro Motor Kit
Our first product in the Communicaid series is an Oromotor kit. The oro-motor kit is a collection of items such as brushes, horns, whistles and straws which help improve the sensory and motor functions of the oral structures. Working with the oro-motor kit facilitates in improving airflow and developing strength in specific muscles of the oral structures. This, in turn, leads to appropriate vegetative functions and development of the components of speech production.
Pragmatic Kits - Basic and Advanced
Pragmatic deficits or deficits in the use of language have come into prominence in the last couple of decades. It is now clear that even those children who have adequate mastery over the sound, meaning, and grammatical systems of their language, could still be suffering from a communication deficit because of their inability to apply this knowledge adequately and appropriately in social situations. This disorder known as a pragmatic deficit may be seen in isolation such as in children with Semantic -Pragmatic Disorders (SPD) or Pragmatic Language Impairment (PLI) or it could be one of the many symptoms seen in complex developmental disabilities such as the Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) or Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD).
The Basic Pragmatic Kit
The Basic Pragmatic Kit introduces some aspects of pragmatics such as labeling, greeting, requesting etc and is intended to provide the user with a model of how one could train a child to master these aspects of communication that are essential for everyday social interactions
The Advanced Pragmatics Skills Kit
The Advanced Pragmatics Skills Kit is a sequel to the basic kit. It introduces complex pragmatic skills such as conversational repair and stylistics, among others. It provides a model on how to train these aspects of communication for everyday social interactions.
Stories for Everyday Social Skills (Set I & II)
Children with communication disorders often have difficulty in managing routine everyday social skills such as greeting people appropriately or asking for a toy politely. These difficulties interfere in their social interactions especially with peers. The stories for everyday social skills (set I and II) enable the child to understand social expectations and norms by laying emphasis on social cues and expected behavior.
Proto Vocabulary kit
The proto vocabulary book is a collection of pictures and word like strings that is a record of the child's utterances and is used to shape the child's utterances by assigning meaning. The skeletal format of the proto vocabulary book is intended to assist and guide the parent of the child with a communication disorder, in providing the much needed support and reinforcement for the child.
Assessment of oromotor skills in toddlers (A manual)
Children with speech language acquisition delays and disorders often have difficulties in oromotor skills. These may include children with ASD often have difficulties with vegetative functions in addition to several exhibiting clear signs of oral and/or verbal dyspraxia. This manual provides a standardized tool for assessing a child’s oromotor skills. This would also be handy in delineating goals for intervention for children with oromotor issues.
Parallel talk
This manual focuses on parallel talk, illustrating how this simple technique when put in practice and done rightly, results in overall benefits. Parallel talk sets and keeps the communication going between parent and child. An immediate perceptible outcome of such communication is not necessarily the spurt in speech but the reduction in behavioral issues and an increase in compliance with children diagnosed as having ASD.
